OLD DOMINION FAST DRAW

JULY 14th ,2010

Howdy Gunfighters!!

HISTORY WAS MADE!!!

The “VERY FIRST”, Cowboy Fast Draw Associations Virginia State Championship was a success! And as predicted… “WE HAD A BLAST”!!!

Sorry I am just now getting the opportunity to post the results. Mother Nature literally sent a bolt of lightening to my house over the weekend taking out my air conditioning, 3 TV’s, my Internet service, and the power cord to my computer! However, as of today, I am back up and running!!

Not only did we have a great match, but we Virginians got to play host to some fantastic new friends! The CFDA is fortunate to have such great folks as members! We sincerely want to thank everyone who made the trip to Virginia for their participation, assistance, and most importantly, their camaraderie and friendship!

Also, finally got to meet Mississippi Marshall! What a great guy! It was an honor to have him here and we appreciate his guidance, and advice throughout the match. We hope he got home safely and carried with him warm thoughts about his new Virginia Friends! That is also the wish we have for all the folks who made the trip. It was humbling and an honor to have you visit and participate with us!

As for the match, the results are posted below! It was a great match! Thanks to all the competitors, and a special thanks to all the members of ODFD for their tireless work, efforts, and support in contributing to our CFDA 2010 VA. STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Congratulations to our 2010 CFDA VIRGINIA STATE CHAMPIONS;

DOC MCWANE  Mens Division

THUNDERCOLT  Womens Division

Look for our article in an upcoming Gazette with more details and comments about the match!!

June 7th, 2010 ( MAYS MATCH)

Gunfighters!!

Sorry about the late Newsletter, been “BUSY”!!!

We have a lot of things going on at “Boothill” and Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD)! We not only are having our normal monthly matches, but we are also working on preparations for our Cowboy Fast Draw Associations very first VIRGINIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP July 9th, 10th, and 11th!!! The range is not only changing to facilitate the State Match, but to also facilitate current and future growth of ODFD. Thanks to all who are putting in so much time working on the range. ODFD is very fortunate to have so many talented, generous, and hard working members!! I will be making detailed announcements and sincere thank you’s to you all in the very near future!!

As for last month’s match (May), we had 26 Gunfighters show up in Boothill Corral to “talk trash and throw wax!!” We even had our good friend from Kentucky, “Shane”, visit and shoot with us. He is a fine gentleman and good Gunfighter! We always look forward to seeing him. Everyone’s shooting skills are improving making it very hard at the beginning of the match to predict any results. This is making shootouts on Boothill very interesting and exciting! When the shooting was over and the smoke cleared, winners were declared!! Congrats to Bob Ed Pain for his hard fought win in the Men’s Division and Lil’ Ike for the same in the Women’s Division. The complete results are listed below!!

We have practice scheduled for this Wednesday evening, June 9th, from 6-9pm at Boothill. The fee is $10.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use ODFD’s ammo.

Our monthly Match for June is THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 13TH!! We moved it up one weekend this month because of the conflict with Fathers Day. Registration and pre-match practice starts at 8:30am. The safety meeting starts at 9:30, and the Match begins at 10am! The fee for the match is $20.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use ODFD’s ammo. Everyone will shoot 6 rounds, the first two at 15’, rounds two and three at 18’, and the balance of the match at 21’. After the sixth round, we will tally the number of “X’s” and quickest times to determine the Magnificent 7 in both the Men’s and Women’s Divisions. They will battle it out in the Championship Format to determine the Top 3 placements for awards. Hope to see ya there!!!

For information on our State Match, please go to our website for updates, details, and the registration form.

By the way, if you didn’t get to see the article in the Roanoke Times about ODFD, check out www.roanoke.com , go to their search, type in Old Dominion Fast Draw, and check out the article and video!!

Hello Gunfighters!!

Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD) has sooooo much going on!!! Just a few lines to let you in on some of it!

First, an update on our April Match! It was the first match we conducted outside this year. It was a pretty day, a little chilly, but very nice. Twenty-five Gunfighters showed up to battle it out on the line. We would like to welcome 2 new shooters that participated, Bandido and Sagebrush Coyote! They did a great job and we sure enjoy their participation. I am also very proud and pleased with my daughter, Sipa’ Whiskey (Miya Duncan) in her debut match! She did really well… and looked beautiful doing it!! I’m very proud!! (Did I say that already??) Congrats to Bob Ed Pain and Thundercolt for their 1st Place wins in their divisions. Great shootin’!!

We are in the middle of making several new improvements on “Boothill”! More to come on that in the near future! We are looking to make our range one of the best Cowboy Fast Draw ranges east of the Mississippi! Something ODFD and its members/participants, guests can be proud of! The improvements are to also facilitate our very first Cowboy Fast Draw Association’s Virginia State Championship July 9th, 10th, and 11th!!

Speaking of… things are moving along really well with plans and progress from ODFD on our State Match. We are doing our best to work to make it a great event so folks will look forward to coming back each year to participate.

ALSO… on Saturday evening during the State Match, (July 10th), ODFD is hosting a GUNFIGHTERS BALL!!! It will be held at our host hotel, Holiday Inn Valley View (info on our website), and will include a great dinner, door prizes, costume contests, and a DJ to “dance the night away” (at least till midnight). All Cowboys, Cowgirls, Gunfighters are invited. You don’t have to be participating in the Cowboy Fast Draw Match to attend! Just put on your best Western attire, pre-register (registration form on website), and bring your significant other along with your “dancing boots”!! Guarantee to have a blast with great friends!! For any questions please contact me!

"HOWDY GUNFIGHTERS!

Well March Madness on "Boothill" was present and accounted for, twenty shooters showed up ready to "throw some wax down the line". It was a gorgeous day on Boot hill! Weather in the low 70's and sunny, made us feel sorry for our Fearless leader (Rabid Ringo) and his wild bunch of Virginians who was off to Texas for the "Texas State Championship" who was freezing their behind's off in the snow. "Congratulations" to Rabid Ringo, Bob Ed Pain, Doc McWane and Rimrock for making us Virginian's proud in Texas.
Meanwhile ,the competition on "Boothill" was fierce!
"Congratulations" to Chesterfield Kid and Lil' Ike for their 1st place finishes.
Melungeon fought hard and gave Chesterfield Kid a real run for the money, the competition was tight but the "Kid" put on his serious face and "whooped" him.
Lil' Ike stayed consistent and finished off the competition in the lady's division.

We had three new shooters who did great in their first competition, Sagebrush Coyote, Fuzzy Fred and Lightning Dale.
Lightning Dale scared us all with his very first shot, it was the fastest time of the day at a .419
Had us all looking at each other and running scared!

Thank-you to everyone who jumped in to help with scoring, announcing and overall running of the match!
Special thanks to Sante Fe Shorty for being my right hand man, Cavern Bill for all you do! Teresa Pollard for being score keeping aficionado, La Pelliroja for all your help and of course Billie Sioux. We have a great group of people!

Look forward to seeing everyone at the April match on the 18th.

Shoot Straight!

Gunfighters!!

Howdy from Old Dominion Fast Draw!!

We have a bunch of things going on and I wanted to update you on some upcoming events as well as an overdue report on last months (February) match. We had 26 Gunfighters show up in the snow and ice to “battle it out” on Boothill! As always, the action was “fast and furious”!

Congrats To Doc Mcwane for his first place win in the Men’s Division and to Billie Sioux for her first place win in the Women’s Division. The competition was tough!! Boothill attracts some “quick” Gunfighters, which brings on some serious competition! The snow was definitely melting a lot faster from the roof of “Boothill Alley” with the action being so hot on the inside!!

As for March!!!! We had a great practice last night (the 10th) and we have another practice night scheduled for Wednesday the 17th from 6-9pm. The fee for the practice is $10.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use club ammo.

Our monthly Match for March is scheduled for Sunday the 21st. Everyone will shoot 6 rounds and we will be keeping track of your times and “X’s” to determine the top 5 shooters in each division to battle it out in the Championship Format to determine the awards for 1st-3rd places. The first 2 rounds will be shot from 15’, rounds 3and 4 will be shot from 18’, and the balance of the match will be shot from 21’! It is a “shotgun primered event”! The fee for the match is $20.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use club ammo. Registration and pre-match practice starts at 8:30am, safety meeting at 9:30, and the match begins at 10am.

We are working on final details of our very first COWBOY FAST DRAW ASSOCIATION’S VIRGINIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP scheduled for July 9th, 10th, and 11th!!

AND, don’t forget about the “GUNFIGHTERS BALL” the evening of July 10th!!

More info will follow soon on both events!!

Come to “Boothill” at the Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club to participate with Old Dominion Fast Draw and experience the fun of Cowboy Fast Draw!! If you haven’t yet, you just don’t know what you’re missing!! Stay tuned for more updates and newsletters about our events and get on board with some of the best folks and most fun you can have with a six-gun!!

Gunfighters!!

Old Dominion Fast Draw is having practice tonight (Wednesday) from 6-9pm on Boothill! Of course with all the snow, the range has been closed until this afternoon. We ask that you drive slowly through the range and be conscious of staying in the cleared part of the road and please DO NOT get into the shoulders. When parking at the range, either park on the side of the Clubhouse close to the road or in the road, not in front of the clubhouse or indoor range. That area is untouched and has plenty of ice and snow. We do not want to get stuck or tear the area up by getting unstuck!! Thanks for your help in this!

The weather looks like it is going to cooperate for this weekends Monthly Match, Sunday January 26, 2010. It will be pretty much a duplicate of January’s match. Everyone will shoot six rounds and we will be recording “x’s” as well as times to determine the top 5 shooters in each division to meet in the Championship Format to determine awards for the top 3 places. The first 2 rounds will be shot from 15 feet, rounds 3 and 4 from 18 feet, and 5 and 6 from 21 feet. The shoot off will be shot from 21 feet. It will be a “shotgun primered” event. The fee for the match is $20.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use clubs ammo. Registration and pre-match practice starts at 8:30am, safety meeting at 9:30, match starts at 10:00. Of course, we will be shooting at our indoor range, “Boothill Alley”!

See ya there!!

Gunfighters!!

Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD) would not let Ol’ Man Winter put a stop to some serious January gunfighting! On Sunday, January 10th, 21 folks showed up on “Boothill” in “Boothill Alley” at the Roanoke Rifle And Revolver Club (RRRC) to shed some post holiday blues and slap some leather! As always, the competition was tough while being combined with “hand shakes and trash talk”!

Congrats to Doc Mcwane and Thunder Colt for their first place wins!! All placements are listed below!

ODFD welcomed a new shooter, “Reed”, with us at the match. He did really well and is a fine gentleman and a good gunfighter! We look forward to him participating with us and becoming a great addition to ODFD.

Our next match is scheduled for Sunday February 21st!

There is one practice scheduled for February, Wednesday the 17th from 6-9pm. The fee is $10.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use clubs ammo. Of course, the match and practice will be held at “Boothill”.

This past weekend, Saturday and Sunday the 13th and 14th, several members of ODFD set up a table at the Gun Show held in the Salem Civic Center. We talked with a “BUNCH” of folks about Cowboy Fast Draw (CFD). A lot of flyers were given out and quite a number of folks promised to come and check it out. I have already received some phone calls from folks wanting more info. It was a great success. Thanks to Bear Creek Jesse, Thunder Colt, Doc Mcwane, Spanky, and Billie Sioux for all the hours and “talking it up” as ambassadors of CFD. We had a great time! We plan to do more of these types of things this year.

And now… for the “Big News”!!!! Old Dominion Fast Draw is currently working hard in the planning stages of… Virginia’s Very First… COWBOY FAST DRAW ASSOCIATION’S VIRGINIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!! It is scheduled for July 9th, 10th, and 11th!!! This will be an exciting event as well as a big step for Cowboy Fast Draw in Virginia as well as the Eastern United States! ODFD is proud to be hosting it!

Also… as if it just couldn’t get better… during the same weekend on that Saturday July 10th… ODFD will be hosting the first ever “GUNFIGHTERS BALL” in Virginia. This evening will be an extension of the planned State Championship. However, it will also be open to “ANY” Cowboys, Cowgirls and/or Gunfighters that would like to put on their best duds, eat a great meal, and dance the night away with great friends of like mind! It will be held in a ballroom at the Holiday Inn Valley View in Roanoke that will also be the “host hotel” for the entire weekend!!

“Now does this sound like fun or what”!!!! Exciting times for Cowboys, Cowgirls, and Gunfighters here in Virginia! More details will soon follow on all of these events. Stay tuned! Meanwhile… come to “Boothill” and try out your gunfighting skills with some of the finest folks you’ll ever meet!

See ya soon!

OLD DOMINION FAST DRAW’S 2009 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The date was November 7th and 8th 2009… Gunfighters from all around were gathering after a year of battling throughout Virginia to see who was left standing while meeting “on the line”! It was time!!! Time for friends to meet again, time for guns and leather, and time for “squinty eyes and itchy trigger fingers”. Time for Champions to be determined!!!

It was time for Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD) to gather its members and friends for another meeting on “BOOTHILL” at the Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club. You could feel the excitement and tension in the air!

After Saturday morning registration and a safety meeting in “BOOTHILL ALLEY”, Gunfighters began stepping up to the line to draw against their “luck of the draw” predetermined fellow competitor. After handshakes, friendly encouragement, and a lot of “trash talk”, leather was slapped and wax-was-a-flyin’!!! It was a wonder how this kind of excitement and competition could last for two days… but is sure did!!

This is how the scoring went… we determined winners of each day’s competition and points were accumulated. Then the points were added up for both days to determine “Overall Placements and Winners”. The 1st place overall winners became the Event Champions and/or ODFD Club Champions.

First Place winners in both days’ events were DOC MCWANE in the Men’s Division and LI’L IKE in the Women’s Division. Congrats to them both for each of those wins as well as being determined OVERALL EVENT CHAMPIONS as well as ODFD’S 2009 CLUB CHAMPIONS.

Each day’s placements and overall placements are listed below!

The FASTEST GUNS for the weekend were BOB ED PAIN for the Men with a time of .448 and THUNDER COLT with a time of .638.

ODFD’s TOP GUNS for 2009 were BOB ED PAIN and LI’L IKE… Congrats to them both!!!

It sure was an exciting year for Cowboy Fast Draw in Virginia! ODFD had several exciting events throughout the year and 2010 promises to be even better! We keep having a lot of fun while making new friends such as three folks that drove in from Kentucky to shoot with us in the Sweet Shoot. We really enjoyed meeting Shane, Kentucky Lawman, and Kentucky Rose. Great folks, great competitors, and great new friends to ODFD!!

Stay tuned for info on 2010’s ODFD Schedule!!

Hope to see ya soon!!!
