February 21st
Old Dominion Fast Draw club newsletter to be posted soon.
February 17, 2010
Gunfighters!!
Old Dominion Fast Draw is having practice tonight (Wednesday)
from 6-9pm on Boothill! Of course with all the snow, the range has been closed until this afternoon. We ask that you drive
slowly through the range and be conscious of staying in the cleared part of the road and please DO NOT get into the shoulders.
When parking at the range, either park on the side of the Clubhouse close to the road or in the road, not in front of the
clubhouse or indoor range. That area is untouched and has plenty of ice and snow. We do not want to get stuck or tear the
area up by getting unstuck!! Thanks for your help in this!
The weather looks like it is going to cooperate for this
weekends Monthly Match, Sunday January 26, 2010. It will be pretty much a duplicate of January’s match. Everyone will
shoot six rounds and we will be recording “x’s” as well as times to determine the top 5 shooters in each
division to meet in the Championship Format to determine awards for the top 3 places. The
first 2 rounds will be shot from 15 feet, rounds 3 and 4 from 18 feet, and 5 and 6 from 21 feet. The shoot off will be shot
from 21 feet. It will be a “shotgun primered” event. The fee for the match is $20.00 with an additional fee of
$5.00 if you use clubs ammo. Registration and pre-match practice starts at 8:30am, safety
meeting at 9:30, match starts at 10:00. Of course, we will
be shooting at our indoor range, “Boothill Alley”!
See ya there!!

Gunfighters!!
Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD) would not let Ol’
Man Winter put a stop to some serious January gunfighting! On Sunday, January 10th, 21 folks showed up on “Boothill”
in “Boothill Alley” at the Roanoke Rifle And Revolver Club (RRRC) to shed some post holiday blues and slap some
leather! As always, the competition was tough while being combined with “hand shakes and trash talk”!
Congrats to Doc Mcwane and Thunder Colt for their first
place wins!! All placements are listed below!
ODFD welcomed a new shooter, “Reed”, with
us at the match. He did really well and is a fine gentleman and a good gunfighter! We look forward to him participating with
us and becoming a great addition to ODFD.
Our next match is scheduled for Sunday February 21st!
It will be pretty much a duplicate of January’s match. Everyone will shoot six rounds and we will be recording “x’s”
as well as times to determine the top 5 shooters in each division to meet in the Championship Format to determine awards for
the top 3 places. The first 2 rounds will be shot from 15 feet, rounds 3 and 4 from 18 feet, and 5 and 6 from 21 feet. The
shoot off will be shot from 21 feet. It will be a “shotgun primered” event. The fee for the match is $20.00 with
an additional fee of $5.00 if you use clubs ammo. Registration and pre-match practice starts at 8:30am, safety meeting at
9:30, match starts at 10:00.
There is one practice scheduled for February,
Wednesday the 17th from 6-9pm. The fee is $10.00 with an additional fee of $5.00 if you use clubs ammo. Of course,
the match and practice will be held at “Boothill”.
This past weekend, Saturday and Sunday the 13th
and 14th, several members of ODFD set up a table at the Gun Show held in the Salem Civic Center. We talked with
a “BUNCH” of folks about Cowboy Fast Draw (CFD). A lot of flyers were given out and quite a number of folks promised
to come and check it out. I have already received some phone calls from folks wanting more info. It was a great success. Thanks
to Bear Creek Jesse, Thunder Colt, Doc Mcwane, Spanky, and Billie Sioux for all the hours and “talking it up”
as ambassadors of CFD. We had a great time! We plan to do more of these types of things this year.
And now… for the “Big News”!!!! Old
Dominion Fast Draw is currently working hard in the planning stages of… Virginia’s Very First… COWBOY FAST
DRAW ASSOCIATION’S VIRGINIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!! It is scheduled for July 9th, 10th, and 11th!!!
This will be an exciting event as well as a big step for Cowboy Fast Draw in Virginia as well as the Eastern United States!
ODFD is proud to be hosting it!
Also… as if it just couldn’t get better…
during the same weekend on that Saturday July 10th… ODFD will be hosting the first ever “GUNFIGHTERS
BALL” in Virginia. This evening will be an extension of the planned State Championship. However, it will also be open
to “ANY” Cowboys, Cowgirls and/or Gunfighters that would like to put on their best duds, eat a great meal, and
dance the night away with great friends of like mind! It will be held in a ballroom at the Holiday Inn Valley View in Roanoke
that will also be the “host hotel” for the entire weekend!!
“Now does this sound like fun or what”!!!!
Exciting times for Cowboys, Cowgirls, and Gunfighters here in Virginia! More details will soon follow on all of these events.
Stay tuned! Meanwhile… come to “Boothill” and try out your gunfighting skills with some of the finest folks
you’ll ever meet!
See ya soon!

OLD DOMINION FAST DRAW’S 2009 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
The date was November 7th and 8th
2009… Gunfighters from all around were gathering after a year of battling throughout Virginia to see who was left standing
while meeting “on the line”! It was time!!! Time for friends to meet again, time for guns and leather, and time
for “squinty eyes and itchy trigger fingers”. Time for Champions to be determined!!!
It was time for Old Dominion Fast Draw (ODFD) to gather
its members and friends for another meeting on “BOOTHILL” at the Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club. You could feel
the excitement and tension in the air!
After Saturday morning registration and a safety meeting
in “BOOTHILL ALLEY”, Gunfighters began stepping up to the line to draw against their “luck of the draw”
predetermined fellow competitor. After handshakes, friendly encouragement, and a lot of “trash talk”, leather
was slapped and wax-was-a-flyin’!!! It was a wonder how this kind of excitement and competition could last for two days…
but is sure did!!
This is how the scoring went… we determined winners
of each day’s competition and points were accumulated. Then the points were added up for both days to determine “Overall
Placements and Winners”. The 1st place overall winners became the Event Champions and/or ODFD Club Champions.
First Place winners in both days’ events were
DOC MCWANE in the Men’s Division and LI’L IKE in the Women’s Division. Congrats to them both for each of
those wins as well as being determined OVERALL EVENT CHAMPIONS as well as ODFD’S 2009 CLUB CHAMPIONS.
Each day’s placements and overall placements are
listed below!
The FASTEST GUNS for the weekend were BOB ED PAIN for
the Men with a time of .448 and THUNDER COLT with a time of .638.
ODFD’s TOP GUNS for 2009 were BOB ED PAIN and
LI’L IKE… Congrats to them both!!!
It sure was an exciting year for Cowboy Fast Draw in
Virginia! ODFD had several exciting events throughout the year and 2010 promises to be even better! We keep having a lot of
fun while making new friends such as three folks that drove in from Kentucky to shoot with us in the Sweet Shoot. We really
enjoyed meeting Shane, Kentucky Lawman, and Kentucky Rose. Great folks, great competitors, and great new friends to ODFD!!
Stay tuned for info on 2010’s ODFD Schedule!!
Hope to see ya soon!!!
